Community Engagement / Capacity Building
SPW utilizes the International Association of Public Participation model in our community engagement and capacity building projects. This model includes a progressive process that includes informing, consulting with, involving, collaborating with, and empowering the community. It is a structured, culturally-competent, multi-layered, and citizen-based capacity building engagement process.
Culturally-competent community engagement has two parallel strategies. One is to develop leadership, strengthen organizations, solve problems, improve services and address key policy issues. The second strategy is to share information about best practices to enable community members to sustain the work they have achieved.
